Tasks and Objectives
Omega-3 fatty acids are vitally important – but many people don’t know that. Scientists are constantly discovering new areas of effectiveness, and thus new perspectives for preventing various diseases are opening up.
The European Omega-3 Council (in Germany: Arbeitskreis Omega-3 e. V.) therefore sees its main task in education: about the meaning of Omega-3 fatty acids and how you can guarantee that you get enough. In addition, the organisation tests products that may then bear its signet on the packaging after receiving a positive assessment.
Tasks
The European Omega-3 Council sees its task in informing the public, experts, and media about the importance of Omega-3 fatty acids to health. This takes place based on current scientific knowledge.TheEuropean Omega-3 Council promotes exchange and discussion between scientists. It also works with food producers to develop and promote products that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids whilst fitting well in the concept of healthy nutrition. Products that meet these prerequisites may bear the signet of the European Omega-3 Council.
Objectives
Everyone knows how important vitamins are for health. That Omega-3 fatty acids have similar importance, however, is known only to a few. The objectives of the European Omega-3 Council are thus as follows:
- provide information on long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) and their effects
- provide information on food rich in or containing Omega-3 fatty acids in order to improve the usually insufficient supply
- promote sensible products rich in long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids within the scope of healthy nutrition
